Meet Our Eye Doctors

Julie Boss, DO, FAOCO

Dr. Julie Boss has been an ophthalmologist since 2002. She began her education at the University of Michigan. From there she received her medical education at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. She went on to complete her residency in ophthalmology at Doctor’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Dr Boss received her board certification in 2003.

She specializes in cataract surgery, including premium intraocular lenses. She treats glaucoma both medically and surgically including micro invasive glaucoma surgery. In addition Dr. Boss offers aesthetic services such as lid surgery and BOTOX.

Dr. Boss has been involved in medical missions to Guatemala, Honduras, Dominican Republic and Zimbabwe.

She is a member of such professional organizations as American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.

Ralph P. Crew, DO, FAOCO

Dr. Ralph Crew has been an ophthalmologist since 1990.  He received his medical education at Ohio University.  After an internship in Detroit, he spent 4 years as a general practitioner prior to entering an ophthalmology residency in Columbus, Ohio at Doctor's Hospital. Dr. Crew received his board certification in 1992. Dr. Crew specializes in treating glaucoma and cataract surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  He has been actively involved in medical missions to third world countries where he performs eye surgery.

Deana Platz, OD

Dr. Deana Platz completed her education at the Michigan College of Optometry. Dr. Platz has been practicing in Big Rapids since 1998 and with Crew and Boss Eye Associates since 2004. She is a member of the Michigan Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association and the West Michigan Optometric Association. Dr. Platz strives to bring her patients the most comprehensive and advanced optometric treatment available.

Dr. Platz welcomes patients at both our Big Rapids and Howard City offices.
